GBTA Philadelphia Scholarships

The 2026 GBTA Philadelphia Scholarship Application is coming soon!

Part of GBTA Philadelphia’s mission statement is to provide avenues for advancement in the travel industry for its members. All scholarship funds will be used to support the professional advancement/development of GBTA Philadelphia members. 

 

The GBTA Philadelphia Scholarship Committee will award a total of $5,000 in scholarship funds for 2026.

 

The GBTA Philadelphia Board will allocate funds based on the number of applicants and interest in the following for calendar year 2026. Applications for scholarships are accepted through September 15th or until all funds are awarded.  These scholarships are in addition to the GBTA Convention and Chapter President’s Council (CPC) scholarship opportunities that are offered to our members annually.  

 

GBTA Philadelphia Scholarships are awarded to qualified Members to participate in professional travel development approved by the GBTA Philadelphia Scholarship Committee.

 

Examples include but are not limited to:

  • GBTA Philadelphia Annual Membership or Renewal
  • GBTA All Access Membership
  • GBTA Convention Registration (Recipient must be a GBTA Member to attend Convention) (up to $1,000 towards the registration fee to attend)
  • Travel towards GBTA Convention (up to $1,000 towards the travel to attend)
  • GBTA Legislate Symposium Registration & Travel (up to $1,000 towards the registration fee and travel to attend)
  • Global Leadership Professional Certification (GLP)
  • Global Travel Professional (GTP)
  • Certificate in Corporate Travel Execution (CCTE)
  • Continuing Education in Courses related to our Industry 


Application Timeline

  • February 23, 2026 – Scholarship application opens
  • September 15, 2026 – Final date on which applications will be accepted. The application period may close earlier if all funds are awarded on a first come first served basis. 
  • October Chapter Meeting – Scholarship winners announced

Eligibility

Open to any Direct or Allied Member in good standing during the 2025–2026 membership year.

The Fine Print

  • Each member may submit one application for each scholarship (GBTA Convention, GBTA Philadelphia, & GBTA Chapter Presidents Council).
  • Scholarship recipients are ineligible to reapply for two years.
  • Maximum Scholarship funds per individual GBTA Philadelphia Member each calendar year is $1,000
  • GBTA Philadelphia will reimburse up to $1,000 for approved travel expenses. Any additional costs are the responsibility of the member.
    • Eligible reimbursable expenses include:
      • Airfare: Round-trip from PHL, EWR, BWI to Chicago
      • Hotel accommodations
      • Ground transportation
    • Non-reimbursable expenses include meals, beverages, upgrades, entertainment, personal items, educational materials, or any other unapproved travel expenses.

  3. Only electronic application submissions will be accepted. Supporting documents can be scanned.
  4. Company Endorsement Form – completed and signed.

General Scholarship Terms

General Scholarship Terms:

  1. Scholarship grants will be awarded to qualified members of GBTA Philadelphia to advance their career in the business travel industry.
  2. Grants must be used within one year of acceptance.
  3. Grants are given to the individual and are not transferable.
  4. After completion of the course/conference for which the scholarship was used, recipients must share their experience at the first available GBTA Philadelphia Chapter meeting

 

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Applicants must be current GBTA Philadelphia members and must maintain their membership throughout the grant period. The only exception is for applicants seeking funding for an annual membership, who are not required to be members at the time of application.
  2. In addition to being a Member of GBTA Philadelphia, Award recipients must also be a member of GBTA Philadelphia, or an All-Access GBTA Member in order to attend Convention.  Membership will be verified before Convention.
  3. Members of the GBTA Philadelphia Board are eligible to apply and receive scholarships, but if they apply, they may not participate in any way in the decision-making process.
  4. Applicants’ company must certify that it endorses the applicant and will allow the applicant necessary time and additional funding, if necessary, to attend the courses or programs.
  5. Applicants must comply with all schedules and requirements pertaining to the scholarship application process.
  6. Applicants may not have been a recipient of a scholarship in the previous two years.
  7. Agreement to the GBTA Philadelphia Travel Code of Conduct & Liability Waiver
  8. Recipients must sign the GBTA Philadelphia Travel Code of Conduct & Liability Waiver upon acceptance.
  9. Renewal memberships: current member’s prior year attendance requires at least 3 in-person meetings. New members are expected to be active, attending at least 3 in-person meetings in 12 months following the award.
  10. Scholarships will be awarded in various amounts based on need and costs will be supported by GBTA Philadelphia form of payment or reimbursed with receipts.
  11. Scholarships cannot be applied to courses already completed.

APPLICATION AND REVIEW PROCESS:

Applicant Requirements:

  1. Submit an online application form.
  2. Provide a signed company endorsement form.
  3. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Review Process:

  1. All applications are treated as confidential and reviewed only by the GBTA Philadelphia Board of Directors or active Members.
  2. The GBTA Philadelphia Scholarship Committee will select scholarship grant recipients based on standard recipient selection procedures.

  3. GBTA Philadelphia decision to grant or deny a scholarship is final and not subject to appeal.
  4. Recipients will be notified directly by the GBTA Philadelphia Scholarship Committee.

SELECTION OF SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS:

Applications are reviewed anonymously by a randomly selected group of GBTA Philadelphia Board Members or active Members. Selection is based on the following criteria:

  1. Industry involvement
  2. Awards and honors
  3. Leadership and participation in GBTA Philadelphia and/or GBTA
  4. Statement of career objectives
